Winter Tritina~Christmas Carols

As the snow silently falls down from the sky, a bunch of people gathered together singing Christmas carol.
What kind of song do you want them to sing?
They will only tell you when they knock on your door.

A group of children and adults, from all ages and sizes, will knock on your door.
When you open the door, you will expect them to sing a Christmas carol.
You would want to hum along as they sing.

As the night gets darker and colder, they will finish the songs that they sing.
They will knock on someone else's door.
They will start to sing another Christmas carol.

Every Christmas, they will be here and knock at your door, and sing a Christmas carol.
So why don't you join them, to bring more joy to others, so winter will feel a bit more warmer this year.

The Thesis

Only if the adults and children in the short stories listen to each other can they create a better future but instead, many conflicts were created because they have different point of views.

Examples:

~Boys and Girls

The narrator really didn't care if she was acting like a tomboy, but then her parents think differently. Her parents wants her to dress like a girl and think like a girl too.

~White Places

The narrator was always bullied by her siblings so she has less confidence to talk. She didn’t have much help from parents because her parents seem to not care. And she was almost dead because of her siblings' threats.

~Deliberate

The narrator lives in a safe home. In school the narrator got in trouble with the teacher and she couldn’t talk back because she was controlled by adults that surround him. She begins to hear voices of her friend’s dead father.

~Kid in a Bin

The narrator was afraid he would have the same disease that his mother has gotten already. So he hides himself from the outside and from his own family. But he still cares a lot about his family’s safety.

~Possum

Helena always thought that her brother was a nuisance. So she only plays games that she could win against him. Their parent’s didn’t stop Helena. In the end, Helena’s brother found a way to win against his sister.

~Memorial Day

The narrator stops talking to his mom and stepdad. He wanted his divorced parents back together. But her mother wants Stephen to move on and forget about the past.

~I’m a Mad Dog Biting Myself for Sympathy

The narrator stole a toucan from a store just to please his girlfriend. But many conflicts were involved because he also stole a car and inside the car, there was a baby. In the end, the narrator left an ice in the baby’s heart.

The similarities for the short stories:

*They all have issues that bother them. In the story "Boys and Girls" the narrator was insecure about how her family treats her. And in the story "Deliberate" the narrator was bothered because he can hear a friend's dead father's voices. And then there is “White Places” the narrator was always bullied by her siblings, and she could do nothing about it because her parents weren’t there to back her up.

*The narrator usually has less confidence mainly because they didn’t want to get involve with their friends and family anymore. In the story “Kid in a Bin” the narrator was scared to face his family. So he hides from them and refuse to talk to them. In the story “Whit Places” the narrator chooses not to talk anymore because he was horribly bullied. And she had to deal with it by herself because her parents don’t care. Another story that has the same problem is “Boys and Girls” the narrator gains less and less confidence in herself because her parents could not stand the way their daughter was behaving.

The differences in the short stories:

*Some of the stories have a solution but some don’t. For example, in the story “Memorial Day” the narrator’s mother wants her son forget about the past and move on, which means it has a solution. Because the narrator didn’t talk back about what his mother said to him. But then in the story “Kid in a Bin” the narrator’s dad didn’t find his missing son, and the narrator continues to hide from his family.

*Families plays different roles but made a huge impact on the narrators.

-In White Places, the narrator’s family doesn’t do anything to help Killer when she was bullied, which caused Killer to stop talking.

- In Kid in a Bin, the narrator’s mother died from a disease. The narrator thought that if he stays with his family or outside in the sun, he might get the same disease. That’s why he hides in a garbage can.

- In Boys and Girls, The narrator’s family disagrees with the way the narrator was behaving. They wanted to change her so they said so awful things to her. The narrator doesn’t like that idea, but then she lives in a period where it is sort of mandatory. So she agrees with her family, and that she is just a girl.

- In Deliberate, the narrator’s family doesn’t do that much. This is why Emma gets in trouble in school with the teachers.

-In I’m a Mad Dog Biting myself for Sympathy, the narrator’s family most likely have put an ice in the narrator’s heart because now that he’s a young adult, he still don’t know the consequences of stealing.

-In Possum, the narrator’s family doesn’t do anything. They just let Helena do whatever she wants. Her family didn’t tell Helena to stop playing tricks on Hector. This explains why Helena didn’t stop playing games that only she could win at.
